My Spring Cleanse was a Bust

I want to report back important lessons I learned from my gentle spring cleanse.

In a nutshell, cleansing my body was a BUST.

At first, I tried to cleanse my diet which only triggered my old binge eating habit.

Instead of limiting the inflammatory foods I recommend, I started to crave them more.

I ate a lot more sugar. My body felt stiffer and more bloated.

I was doing the anti-cleanse!

So, what went wrong?

I accepted what was happening and allowed myself to have whatever I wanted. I let go of any restriction mentality that came from the thought of a cleanse. I had more fun. I drank beer while cooking seasonal greens and a soup recipe I know well & love.

Then things started to shift. I was reminded to trust my body. I was reminded that having more fun and play in my life was an essential ingredient to reach my life’s goals.

I practiced self-compassion, fully embracing the experience I was having—even if that included a frustrated mental state and tension in my body.

Now, each time I go through this experience (anything that resembles a binge), I move through it faster and come out the other side stronger.

I eventually experience a ‘lighter’ version of myself because I let go of controlling my experience and move into a softer place of acceptance and curiosity.

In the end, I actually did a gentle spring cleanse—it just looked way different than I planned.

The wise cliché is true – It’s the journey, not the destination, that matters most.
In good health,
❤️ Jamie
