About Me

What does it really mean to be “healthy”?

My definition of health continues to evolve as I explore this topic personally & through my experiences working in the field of health-care. Health is such a fascinating topic being influenced by our genetics, culture, thoughts, beliefs, environment, food, and self-care. I have always been very curious to dive deep into these many facets that influence how our body responds, adapts, and performs in the midst of the many factors affecting its function.

I received my BS in Kinesiology at the University of Colorado which gave me a good foundation for the study of the body. I found myself equally influenced in the topic of self-care during my time traveling and studying abroad during and after college. During this time I learned to get comfortable with the unfamiliar: Different food, cultures, perspectives on health, and paces of life. I experienced first hand the power of lives being lead differently from what I’d grown up with. I became aware that I had the ability to create a lifestyle and definition of health that resonated with me.

These experiences eventually brought me to Chinese medicine which has deep roots in Daoist principles such as living in sync with nature. It was a challenge to flip my western-trained mind. I had to be willing to change my perspective to a new way of understanding, to get comfortable with what seemed so unfamiliar at the time. Learning a different form of medicine also meant learning about the culture it came from.  After finishing my graduate program in San Francisco at ACTCM in 2006, I interned at a hospital in Hangzhou, China where eastern and western medicine is practiced together. It was in China that I felt the pull to return to San Francisco in 2007 and open my own practice that blended both eastern and western medicines.

To this day, I am drawn to experiences that continue to challenge my capacity to see health in a different way. Living and working in San Francisco, I am fortunate to work with a wide range of patients from different cultures, ages, and health challenges. I continue to seek knowledge and understanding from the people I meet and will always be a student of life.
