23 Jun Moving into Summer Season
The season of summer is officially here.
The sun was shining bright in San Francisco this week, and the wind was blowing at her fullest.
Chinese medicine looks at how weather patterns affect our body, mood, and overall well-being.
This time of year, you may feel more energy in the body (and mind) as the sunlight reaches its peak on the summer solstice.
Heightened “yang qi,” as we say in Chinese medicine, raises your capacity to feel more energized. However, when out of balance, you may feel this as anxiety, restlessness, poor sleep, or a scattered mind.
Then add a windy day to the mix, and you may feel these symptoms more exaggerated than usual.
I can think of a few ways to do this:
-
Increase your physical activity (which we are more inclined to do in the summer).
-
Receive acupuncture to support the movement and balance of Qi in the body.
-
Find other ways to literally FEEL your physical body ( baths, saunas, jump in the ocean, take your shoes off and walk barefoot on grass or sand).
-
Tune into your body and breath through a guided meditation.
-
My favorite – turn on your favorite music and DANCE!
Getting out of my head and into my body is not always easy. I want to share a 20-minute guided meditation that helps me practice this skill on a regular basis.
The recording is part of my ongoing meditation group that now meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30-10 am (summer schedule). Click here if you’d like to join our weekly practice or get more information.
Wishing you all a healthy summer season.
