Year of the Snake: Deliberate, Patient & Tenacious

Have you heard of the Tong Shu Almanac? It originates more than 2,000 years ago evolving from ancient Chinese astronomy & metaphysics and continues to be consulted for its practical guidance on auspicious timing. Through this wise handbook, I have become more fascinated with how to align my actions through the seasons and be more in the flow of life. It’s an on-going study and I plan to bring these teachings into future classes and offerings.

Earlier last month we moved through the energetic change of hands from a Dragon into a Snake year. You may have felt the whiplash actions of the Dragon as destructive, overstimulating and forceful. This Snake year invites you to glean insight from the upheaval and take responsibility. Like a snake, you are encouraged to be stealth, deliberate and willing to transform.  Snakes are focused on one action at a time, using their incredible patience and stillness to strike when the time is right.

As you acclimate to this Year of the Wood Snake, consider the nimbleness of the snake. With a stealth deliberation and capacity to stay invisible, one may be surprised when they make their calculated movement forward. They can also quickly look back and surmise where they’ve been.

With these snake characteristics in mind, take a moment to ask yourself:

1. Where will you focus your energy this upcoming Spring & into the new year?
2. What from the previous year gleaned your awareness?
3. What needs to be removed from your life in order to move forward and how to embrace the vulnerability that naturally comes with it.

Several myths and spiritual traditions associate snakes with wisdom, inner transformation and meditation.  I was once told that those born during a Snake year had the innate gift of being able to go deepest into meditative states.

I invite you to take advantage of this Snake year to begin or re-start a meditation practice and join our Tuesday/Thursday morning groupEmail here to join. We are a small and supportive bunch! You are encouraged to come as you are.

Embrace the qualities of the snake: shed what no longer serves you, be extra patient and deliberate about where you’re going next. Be like the sssssssnake: intentional, insssssightful, tenaciousssss and meditative.

In the meantime, enjoy this classic snippet of a snake who’s showcasing his spiritual abilities:
